Jonathan Rogers named to ‘Best Lawyers in America’ list
Jonathan Rogers was named to the “Best Lawyers in America” listing for 2017. He has been a trial lawyer for 40 years and specializes in personal injury, criminal defense, traffic, divorce, custody, employment law and civil rights law. He is President of the Floyd County Bar Association and a member of The Virginia State Bar Association, The Roanoke City Bar Association, The Virgin Island Bar Association and a permanent member of The 4th Circuit Judicial Council. Jonathan is also a member of The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Jonathan Rogers graduated Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1971. In 1974, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington & Lee University School of Law where he was member of Order of the Coif, a member of the Law Review, and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Constitutional Law.
He served as a Federal Law Clerk to the Honorable Ted Dalton and was an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in the City of Roanoke. He also served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Virgin Islands as well as a law partner in the firm Strickland & Rogers before becoming a sole practitioner in 1992.
Past community involvement includes serving on the Board of Trustees for the June Bug Center in Floyd, VA, Chairman of the Harvard College School and Scholarship committee, as well as President of the Greater Deyerle Neighborhood Center in Roanoke, VA. and a charter member of the Floyd County Rotary Club. He is a former Chairman of the Board of Blue Ridge Center for Chinese Medicine and a member of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce.
Jonathan resides in Floyd with his wife Jeri, a professional photographer and editor of Artemis Journal, a yearly publication highlighting artists and writers fromÂ the Blue Ridge Mountains. Their oldest child, Jennifer, is an honors graduate from Harvard College and a writer residing in Los Angeles, Ca. Her debut novel – The 13th Continuum – is the first of a trilogy released last May, with the second release due out in November and is being packaged into a feature film. Their son, Jackson, is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and is a geologist with GEO Southern Energy Corporation in Woodlands, Texas. Jared, their youngest son, is Corporate Chef of Paw Paw Restaurant in Charleston, SC which is to open in October. Prior to taking the job at Pawpaw, Rogers spent more than a decade in San Francisco; he moved to the city from Floyd, Va. at the age of 17 to attend culinary school. In 2014, the San Francisco Chronicle anointed him as a rising star chef.
Melissa Sutphin, Paralegal and Legal Assistant joined Jonathan Rogers, P.C. in September 2007. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from New River Valley Community College in 2008 and is a 2003 graduate of Floyd County High School. Melissa lives in Floyd with her son and daughter.
